Edwardian Fireplaces
At the beginning of the Edwardian era most Period Fireplaces were still made using Cast Iron, and Tiled Inserts with Tublined or Transfer Fireplace Tiles were very popular. The Toulouse Cast Iron Tiled Insert is a very good example of this period. Timber Mantels were still very popular, as were Marble Surrounds and Limestone Surrounds. Many Edwardian Cast Iron Fireplaces were designed in the Art Nouveau style, with stylised forms that were both simple and elegant. The Northmoor Tiled Insert and the Kelmscot Combination Fireplace are wonderful examples of the ART Nouveau style. After the 1st. world war the use of Cast Iron in Fireplaces gradually gave way to Tiled Fireplaces.
